Courses

RPT has seen some changes recently and I love teaching the new stuff. There are dates for Manchester this Summer. Liverpool, too.

Simon and Evette will be teaching Level 3 in Berlin in September. You 'll need to have certified up to Level 2 to be able to join that amazing course so don't miss the only chance you have in the UK to do just that.

Maths - yes, maths

On a completely different subject, I have to tell you that I was shocking at maths at school. It took me 2 goes to pass my GCE (I'm old - that was the precursor to GCSEs). When I did pass I couldn't understand what all the fuss had been about. All I did was learn a few formulas and rules. Why hadn't I done that the first time? I was blocked, that's why. It was a purely emotional thing and had nothing to do with intellect or application. Working in a secondary school, I've been seeing the effects of these emotional blocks first hand. The pressure is immense - young people know that without their C in maths their college and employment prospects are severely limited - and that doesn't help someone who is already labouring under an apparently irrational and disproportionate fear.

Time to do something about that.

I'm setting up a programme to help young people get over their maths terrors. It will run face-to-face or over Skype. There will be an initial questionnaire plus materials that will help your child to help herself when she's out there in the maths world. This is about empowerment and freedom.

What it isn't about is me teaching maths because I am literally unable to do that. I just want to remove the blocks. Check out my new blog at unblockyourmaths.wordpress.com
